ok i have an 88 hb and a 91 crx si sway bar w/ both brackets. is it oging to be worth it to get my muffler rehung for it and is it possible to weld the brackets on since the holes arent the same size or should i just pay the $$ for the hb brackets? or what. i dont want to get rid of it if its that great of an improvent but dont want to end up 200 cheaper by the time i buy brackets and all...

Hmmm, this is tricky but i've been though it before cuz I had a 88 also (hence my name).

The 88's have differnt lower control arms (LCA) than the 89-91 civic/Crx's. The LCA's on the 88 actaully resemeble those on the integra type-R, how does this help you? It doesn't, all shocks and swaybars mount diffently the the 88 LCA's than any of the other years, thus less aftermarket suspenion parts for you. But the fix is easy.

Goto a junkyard. Get the control arms off a 89-91 Civic or CRX (NOTE: THEY MUST BE OFF A Si SO YOU HAVE THE HOLES TO BOLT THE BAR INTO). I didn't know this, and bought the wrong arms, they were off a DX and lacked the sway bar holes but looked like the Si LCA. (NOTE: if you do this get the stock Si shocks too because they attach the control arms diffently at the bottom).

Next thing is the brackets that mount to the car's chassis. Since the DX does not have threads in the chassis, you can't bolt the brackets on (i think one bolt lines up with a one of the threds for the tie down hooks in the rear but thats all). So outta 3 bolts you can only fit 1. Solution: Put in the one bolt if you can and weld the hell outta the brackets, best way to go.

This sounds expensive but look around and it should be cheap. Your muffler should be outta the way. And if the welds are good, then having them take the stress of the Si rear sway bar shouldn't be a problem. I really hope i made some sense, its a hard thing to explain and its been awhile since i've delt with this problem. If the brackets work out, then get the Si LCA's, down the road save your money and buy the progress rear sway bar is doesn't rely on the chassis mounts just the LCA's.
